Dr. Mark Cook, A Bird’s-Eye View of Everglades Restoration

  • Hobe Sound Nature Center 13640 Southeast Federal Highway Hobe Sound, FL, 33455 United States (map)

Join us Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 6:00 PM for the first of our Spring Series lectures, titled A Bird’s-Eye View of Everglades Restoration, with Dr. Mark Cook.

Dr. Cook will explore how wading birds reflect the progress of Everglades restoration and serve as “feathered sentinels” of ecosystem health.

Dr. Cook is a British-born avian ecologist and restoration scientist with nearly 30 years of experience studying bird behavior, ecology, and conservation worldwide. He is the Principal Scientist and Section Leader of the Systemwide Everglades Research Group at the South Florida Water Management District, where his research for more than two decades has focused on wading birds as indicators of restoration success. An award-winning wildlife photographer and Everglades Champion Award recipient, Dr. Cook also uses storytelling and imagery to inspire conservation of Florida’s natural landscapes.

Inspire your mind. Move your body. Fall in love with the outdoors—one week at a time.
