Since joining the Hobe Sound Nature Center volunteer team this year, Aimee has quickly become a jack of all trades! From lending a hand at events and tackling administrative tasks to keeping our spaces sparkling clean, she’s always willing to jump in wherever help is needed.
With her calming, welcoming presence and passion for nature, Aimee brings a special warmth to our Nature Center community. As a yoga and meditation instructor, avid traveler, and lifelong nature enthusiast, she has a deep appreciation for the natural world and the healing power of the outdoors. Volunteering allows her to combine her love of wildlife and Florida’s unique ecosystems with her desire to give back to the community she calls home.
Thank you, Aimee, for your flexibility, positive energy, and all the ways you help make the Nature Center a special place!
How long have you been volunteering at the Nature Center?
I’ve been volunteering at the Nature Center for 8 months.
What inspired you to become a volunteer at the Nature Center?
After moving to Hobe Sound from Phoenix, Arizona in November 2024, I was eager to learn more about Florida’s unique plants, wildlife, and ecosystems. Volunteering at the Hobe Sound Nature Center felt like the perfect opportunity to connect with my new surroundings while helping educate others about the importance of conservation. I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned from the wonderful Nature Center team and for the opportunity to help protect and preserve this special place.
What's one of your favorite memories from volunteering?
One afternoon, I noticed the double doors opening, but no one was standing there. When I looked down, I realized a land crab had triggered the motion-sensor doors and scurried right inside! He made his way behind the claw machine, so I quickly closed the door to the Owl’s Roost gift shop to keep him from wandering in there. Somehow, he still managed to sneak behind Sammy and Sapphire’s aquarium for a few moments! With the help of Yasmeen, our STEM Education Manager, a broom, and a dustpan, we eventually escorted our unexpected visitor back outside. It was quite the comical adventure!
If you could spend a day as one of our ambassador animals, which one would you choose, and why?
I would love to see the world through the eyes of Willow, our Eastern Screech-Owl! Even though she has only one functional eye, her vision and hearing are still incredible. I’d also love to know what it feels like to be covered in feathers!
